Lindex supports PaCT project for cleaner water in Bangladesh

Lindex has signed up a four year agreement with IFC to develop guidelines and training for a cleaner and more resource-efficient production in factories in Bangladesh.

The overall project goal is to enhance the long-term competitiveness and sustainability of the textile wet processing sector in Bangladesh by reducing environmental and related social impacts that result from prevailing practices in textile wet processing, particularly excessive groundwater extraction and surface water pollution, but including energy and chemical use.

“We had a successful pilot project with two of our main suppliers 2011-2012 where with simple measures such as repairing leaks in steam lines and provide all water hoses with energy nozzle, saved more than 16 million liters of water per year. By working with these issues and to participate in workshops, the awareness of cleaner and more resource -efficient production increases and it was just as important to do something good for the environment and local people, as lowering costs, “said Ingela Lind, Lindex

Our goal is that all our key suppliers in Bangladesh will have completed the program and begins use resources better and releasing cleaner water. Which in turn means that nearly 80 % of our purchases come from factories with less emissions before this program is finished, concludes Ingela Lind, Lindex.

PaCT is an $11 million program funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Dhaka, with sponsorship coming from C&A, H&M, Inditex, G-Star, KappAhl, Lindex, Primark, and Tesco.
