Lindex grows faster than the market and expands to Dubai

The 2009 results was the best ever for Lindex. The fashion chain reported a very good year. Lindex continues its strong growth. During 2010 there will be several strategically important store openings in Europe. Lindex is also entering new markets. Its 400th store will be opening in Dubai.

Stockmann is today reporting the 2009 accounts and results for the fashion chain Lindex. Total sales in local currencies increased by 5.1%, and for the fourth year in a row Lindex increased sales in comparable stores in Sweden faster than the market generally.

– The accounts demonstrate that we have had a really good year at Lindex. Despite the international financial crisis, our total sales in local currencies have increased. This shows that our customers appreciate us. This gives us the courage and energy to continue our expansion and to open up in new and exciting places in the world, says Göran Bille, MD of Lindex.

Lindex has now reached another milestone in its expansion. This spring it will be opening store number 400 in Dubai. For 2010, Lindex is planning to enter yet another new market by opening in Egypt. The stores are being set up as franchises in the Middle East.

Lindex will also be continuing its aggressive expansion in Central Europe. In March and April, stores will be opening in two capital cities — Prague and Bratislava. These openings are strategically important steps for Lindex in Central Europe. In April, franchised stores will also be opening in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital Sarajevo. The plan is to open 10-15 new stores in Central Europe out of a total of about 40 before the end of 2010.

– For Lindex, 2009 was an eventful year. We have strengthened our brand by offering the right fashion collections, improving our logistics and creating a clearer and more inspiring stores concept. But the best was in November, when we were voted Fashion Chain of the Year in Sweden. In the space of a couple of years, Lindex has become a fast-growing and successful international fashion company, aiming to move its range up the fashion scale. As proof of our success, at the end of 2009 Lindex received the most prestigious award that a fashion chain can receive in Sweden. The award “Fashion Chain of the Year” was made at the Habit fashion gala in November 2009.
