School of Hope, Bangladesh

We believe that education is a way out of poverty. In Bangladesh, education is mandatory up to 5th grade but this does not mean that all children in Bangladesh are given the opportunity to go to school. To support children’s education Lindex is committed to School of Hope, a school in the poor areas of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

School of Hope was founded 1990 on the initiative by Mr Wim Bakker, a Dutch man who lived in Bangladesh during that time. The school offers almost free education up to 5th grade. The parents only pay a symbolic amount of 5 taka per month, which is about 0.06 euro. The school started out with 25-30 students, but today it educates 200 students. The school depends entirely on donations from individuals and organisations.

Lindex has supported School of Hope for many years by donating clothes to the children as well as donating clothes to their fundraising sales that sponsors school materials. Since 2010 Lindex also finances the teachers’ salaries to help the school secure a continued good education for the students.

We have discovered that a snap-on bracelet with a cat head is incorrectly constructed and does not meet Lindex’s safety requirements. The metal component inside the bracelet is not properly protected which means that its sharp edges may pose a risk of injury.
