Lindex reports good start to the year and increased sales

Fashion chain Lindex continues to report good results. During the first quarter, it increased sales in local currencies by 8.1 per cent. Lindex is currently going through an expansion phase with several strategically important store openings in Europe planned for the spring. On May 6, Lindex will open a store on its 13th market, in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The owner of Lindex, Stockmann, today presented its results for the first quarter as well as the results for the fashion chain Lindex. Sales in local currencies increased by 8.1 per cent during the first quarter and in EUR the increase was a full 17.3 per cent. The operating profit was also very strong, rising to EUR 2.1 million.

– It is extremely gratifying to start off 2010 so well. Our offering, with inspiring, affordable fashion, is appreciated by our customers. We had several important store openings during the first quarter and now we have stores in major cities such as Dubai, Prague and Bratislava. The focus in the future is on the opening and profitable running of even more Lindex stores in central Europe and Russia, states Göran Bille, Lindex Chief Executive.

On May 6, a store will be opened in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The store will be operated as a franchise and means that Lindex will have operations in 13 countries. During 2010, Lindex is planning to enter yet another new market by opening a store in Egypt. The aim is to establish a further 30 stores during 2010.

– It is encouraging to see that our sales are rising. It gives us the strength and courage to continue with our expansion and open stores at new, strategically important locations throughout the world. 2010 will in many ways be an eventful year for Lindex, which is something our fashion-conscious customers will certainly notice, reports Göran Bille.

Over the past few years Lindex has become an expanding, successful international fashion company. Lindex has worked systematically to achieve its objective of raising the level of fashion in its offering to the customer and a good example of this is the company’s focus on design. The successful collaboration last autumn with designer Ewa Larsson will continue. On May 24 we will see the launch of Affordable Luxury, an exclusive yet affordable design collection with an international feeling.
