Since February 2013, Lindex, together with Indiska, KappAhl and SIWI, has worked with 35 suppliers in Delhi and Jaipur in SWAR project aiming for a more sustainable development of the textile industries in India. The project is about reducing water and energy consumption of both suppliers and their sub-suppliers, as well as reducing the production’s negative environmental impact.
“I am delighted and proud that one of Lindex sub-suppliers in India is involved in the project and today can tell us about their successful work, where we together can contribute to a more sustainable development in India”, says Ingela Lind, Purchasing Developer at Lindex. “Also, it feels great that we in this project have gone a step back in the production chain and work with sub-supplier as well – who dye and print fabrics for our garments.
Through workshops and technical support to the factories, suppliers have managed to rationalize the production and reduce the use of resources. The investments made are often paid back within the first year in terms of lower costs for water, energy and chemicals.
“Our sustainability work is a never-ending journey and we must challenge ourselves and our suppliers on a daily basis in order to achieve our goals and grow in a sustainable way,” says Göran Bille, CEO at Lindex. In 2014, the project will intensify its work with their Indian partners to expand its positive effects, and in addition, new suppliers will be invited to participate in the project.
