Lindex contributes to increased safety in textile factories in Bangladesh

Last week, Lindex together with other members in the Accord on Fire and Building Safety  met in order to ensure safer working conditions for textile workers in Bangladesh. At the meeting, which took place in Geneva, timeframe and organization were  agreed on. The pace is high. The next step should be completed on 15 July.

The Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh was initiated in 2013 by the two global unions IndustryAll Global and UNI Global Union. Totally 70 brands and retailers have now signed the Agreement and there is room for more to sign up. Lindex is one of two Swedish fashion chains that have signed the Accord so far.

Next step in the Accord is to gather information about which factories that the signatories has production in. Deadline is 15 July . A thorough inspection of the Fire and Building safety of the factories will be made by independent inspectors which are nominated by the organization behind the safety Agreement. The review is expected to run during 9 months. It is finalized with a report which the signatories will follow up together with all the concerned factories According to the Accord, the earlier experiences from the members and the work that is done today will be utilized. Lindex, which has a long and broad experience in its work in the BSCI will contribute to this process.

”Lindex has been working with Electricity assessments  in the factories since a while back and it has been a part of the whole Stockmann Group sustainability work. Among other things, through our own and also external inspections in those factories that the Group is using. We think this is an important question and we are now uniting and get stronger increases the possibilities for a quick and sustainable change for the textile workers in Bangladesh.
